A historic picture of Julie Bergel’s gravestone is available.

A gravestone fragment was found at Žešov as early as November 2015, from which the deceased could be identified. The historic photograph now allowed to learn the appearance of the original gravestone.

The gravestone belongs to Julie Bergel, who was buried in grave no. 88 in Section III right at the northern wall. She died April 29, 1873, aged 45. The Latin letters on the gravestone read May erroneously as the month of death. The Hebrew wording and the register of deaths state April.

Translation of the Hebrew text:

HERE LIES

VIRTUOUS WOMAN, MISSIS JEHUDIT, WIFE OF YAAKOV HIRSCH BERGEL, DIED ON THE THIRD DAY (TUESDAY) OF THE SECOND DAY OF THE MONTH IYAR, IN THE YEAR (5)633 BY THE LESSER COUNT (29 APRIL 1873).

MAY HER SOUL BE ADMITTED TO THE COMMUNION OF THE LIVING!
