A meeting took place in the Prostějov town hall on Wednesday 25 February to discuss the project of rehabilitation of the old Jewish cemetery. Mayor Miroslav Pišťák with a team of officials in charge took part on behalf of the municipality; the initiators of the project were represented by Rabbi Louis Kestenbaum with retinue, Architect Richard Sidej and project coordinator Tomáš Jelínek.
Rabbi Kestenbaum explained the importance of the site for the Jewish community, and the necessity of protecting it. He thanked Mayor Pišťák for his openness and reiterated that he would bear all costs incurred in the rehabilitation of the site. It was agreed that in the next few months the municipality would provide the project initiators with the terms (information on utilities, safety requirements of the school, etc.), with which the design should comply. It was stated at the meeting that the idea of the project would be enhanced if the cemetery site was declared cultural heritage.
